Death Calls
I don’t receive calls of Happy Birthday or good news from the family I grew up in. In fact, I’ve been quite trained to know that when my mother calls she is usually delivering the news of someone’s death.
My grandpa.
My stepdad.
And this time it was my uncle.
I only get a call from my biological mother when someone is dead.
Imagine that for a moment.
No phone calls on your birthday.
No phone calls when there’s good news like new births in the family.
No. None.
Just death.
Whether that’s being in the ministry that God had in mind for us or the fact that we receive death calls almost daily.
We don’t go a day without hearing of someone’s death who has impacted the lives of those around them.
Knowing those phone calls from my biological mother only add to the death toll makes it hard to choke down sometimes.
The one thing I had to unlearn when I became a Christian was that I didn’t have to earn the Father’s Love for me.
That concept seemed so foreign when growing up in a world that was solely centered around works being good enough.
Love was an exchange. It was earned.
Not freely given. Not emotional either.
You did good, you got a prize.
You loved work.
And then the priorities of others feelings followed.
I don’t know if I’d even call them priorities.
Because they weren’t prioritized.
But when Christ found me that was something that He wanted to grow out of me.
The need to rely heavily on what I can do for others.
Being a “fixer” or a “helper”
There is NO ONE who can fix or help the way Jesus can! And I’m so grateful I had enough courage through Jesus to know and understand that His death, His choice, His sacrifice, His work on the cross made me whole. His sacrifice alone.
If you are a fixer or helper
If you rely on what you can do for others
If you don’t have a relationship with your birth family
If you’re heartbroken
Or lost or devastated or grieving or in agony
Jesus has come to set you free.
He is our ultimate healer.
Redeemer.
He loves you so much and wants you to feel the freedom that comes with His Love!
You don’t have to earn it
you just have to receive it
